If you hang around the DJ business for long enough, you’ll hear the complaints from the “old school” DJs: people getting into the DJ life have it easier than they did, technology has ruined the game. There is always resistance to change, and no matter what you hear from the OGs in the business, neither of those statements is true.
Just because the challenges have changed, doesn’t mean succeeding as a DJ has gotten any easier. If fact, there’s a real argument that success as a DJ is even harder to achieve. Why? It used to be the major challenges in getting a career started were getting your hands on all the gear, being committed enough to lug it everywhere, and being able to afford enough music to put sets together.
But all that’s changed. Setups have gotten remarkably cheaper, music is everywhere, and with the use of MP3s, nobody has to lug anything heavier than a hard drive from gig to gig. The ease of entry also means the number of people who are trying to succeed at DJing has grown exponentially. Now the challenge is to set yourself apart from a growing crowd of competition, and that is one hell of a challenge.
But has technology ruined the game? No. Not even close. It’s just changed the DJ’s job description. It isn’t just about selecting songs and blending beats. It’s using the time technology saves the DJ to do other things like engage the crowd via social media, respond to fan requests sent via text message, promote and market themselves and their events. It’s about using every tool at their disposal to increase their chances for success in a hard business to win in.
JammText is one of the best answers to both of those questions. With JammText’s video streams, built from social media feeds, text messages and custom built content, and DJ can increase their chances of standing out from the crowd, give themselves another vital marketing platform and build a brand that will outshine and outlast the competition.
